The tags inside an MP3 file contain information about the song itself including the title, artist name, album name, year of release, and more. Often times, audio files have metadata that is either incomplete, incorrect, or missing completely, and this tool aims to help users fill this information in manually.
How Free MP3 Tag Editor Works
Free MP3 Tag Editor is quite simple to use, even for those who likely feel they aren't sure of what they're doing. When an audio file is opened with Free MP3 Tag Editor, you'll see a basic interface that allows you to fill in core information about the file. There are tabs along the upper portion of the app interface that allow you to also tweak album artwork and add more types of metadata to your file.
Opening a file with Free MP3 Tag Editor can be accomplished in one of two ways. You can either drag and drop a music file right onto the Free MP3 Tag Editor app interface to begin editing its tags, or you can browse to it manually and open it that way. In some cases, the tags might already be pre-populated with information, but in other cases, the fields might all be blank. If the music file did not originate from an authentic source, it's likely you will need to manually populate all of the metadata information yourself.
There is a "Format Info" pane that adorns the right side of the app interface, and it's worth noting that anything you see in this box cannot be changed. The data is there purely for informational purposes.
